Broadway is coming to Bismarck with the musical production of STOMP.

Have you ever heard of Stomp? It is an innovative mixture of dance and music. Stomp is so incredible to watch because the performers do not play traditional instruments. Instead, they play literally any object you can find. Coming in February, all Bismarck-Mandan is invited to see Broadway in Bismarck: STOMP.

What is Stomp?

If you do not know what Stomp is, it is a musical event where everyday objects are used as musical instruments - objects you would not even think could be musical. Broadway.com describes the STOMP musical as a production that uses "Zippo lighters, push brooms, wooden poles, hammer handles, garbage cans, inner tubes, matchboxes—and yes, even the kitchen sink. There’s no traditional narrative; both household and industrial objects find new life as musical instruments in this unique combination of percussion, movement and visual comedy."

The first time I became aware of Stomp performance was from the TV show, Sister, Sister. There is an episode where Tia and Tamera get into that style of performance. I vividly remember them practicing their music on trash cans in their driveway. I scoured the internet for a clip of the scene to post in this story but I had no luck.
