Here we go, it's time to make the trek to Minot for the North Dakota State Fair. As any seasoned fair-goer would know, there are a few items you do not want to be without. Here is a list of items to consider bringing with you to the NDSF.

  • Cash

Yes, you'll find ATMs on site, but they'll charge you a few bucks to use them. You'll find vendors are starting to use Square to accept payment with your card on site, but it's no guarantee that they will. Cash is always your best bet as you'll have to purchase tickets and the tickets are used to purchase food and drink.

  • Hand Sanitizer

I always have individually wrapped hand sanitizers. Remember with the petting zoo and kids running amuck, there will be germs all over the fairgrounds, it's best to play it safe. Also, the grounds also has many of the portable hand washing stations.

     Sunscreen and Bug Spray

There will be plenty of walking, comfortable shoes will be your best bet. There could be rain, be sure to pack some kind of a poncho, sunglasses and a hat. With the access water the state currently has because of the high river levels, you know there will be mosquitos, so bug repellant would be a great thing to pack in your back. Nothing is worse than a sunburn on Monday morning heading back to work, sunscreen is a good bet especially with the kids.

    Cell Phone and Charging Cord

Be sure to have a fully charged cell phone battery and for a back-up, bring your cell charging cord. You can always find electricity to charge your phone. Your phone will be your best friend if you have an emergency or get lost. Be sure your kids have a way to get in touch with you if they should get lost in the crowds and you have a way to get in touch with them. Plus, make a plan before going into the fairgrounds. Designate a meeting place for everyone in your party to meet after a concert.

The more important thing is to have fun. Know your limits when it comes to exposure outside. There are always officers around the grounds to assist you with any situation.

We found a couple of excellent places to stop traveling from Bismarck up to Minot. You may want to stop and enjoy some local food from these eateries.
