The North Dakota Department of Transportation is urging North Dakotans to schedule appointments for Real IDs sooner rather than later.

The original deadline (for travel purposes) for getting a Real ID was in October of 2020. Thanks to the pandemic, that deadline was extended to the year 2021. Now, we are six months from the new deadline, and fewer than half of North Dakotans have switched to the Real ID.

So, far, only 41% of North Dakotans have their Real IDs.

According KX News, The North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) is urging North Dakotans to get their Real IDs as soon as possible, BEFORE October hits. The report states that "with only 41% of North Dakotans" making the switch, licensing offices are expecting to get extremely busy by the time the October 1, 2021 deadline hits. Do not go to your Real ID appointment without all of the proper documentation.

Before you make the appointment and show up to get your Real ID, do not forget to have your "ducks in a row." Seriously there is a whole checklist dedicated to information involving obtaining the Real ID. You must have at least two forms of identification (that do not include your your regular driver's license or ID card) and two forms of residential proof. There are a few other details involved with getting your Real ID, get the checklist and information here.

Are you one of the 41% of North Dakotans who already has their Real ID?
