Pow Wow Time in Bismarck-Mandan

I am sure many of you have heard of the United Tribes International Pow Wow. What many of you may not know, is that pow wows happen almost every weekend.

There are many more pow wows in Bismarck outside of the United Tribes International Pow Wow which takes place the weekend following Labor Day. Small communities host pow wows each weekend. For those that take part, it can be a very busy summer.

I danced as a little girl and got back into dancing about 8 years ago but do not compete. I dance for the enjoyment and in prayer. Pow wows bring together all generations of family and friends. It's a good chance to meet, laugh, share stories, and dance - it's the original aerobics!

This weekend is the Porcupine Celebration. It takes place in Porcupine, about an hour south of Mandan down highway 6. There will be a few food vendors, a road race, softball tournament and much more.
