The Washington Post is reporting that President Barack Obama is planning to visit a North Dakota Indian reservation in June. It would be his first visit to North Dakota since 2008 on the campaign trail.

Officials familiar with the details of the trip spoke on condition of anonymity since they were not authorized to speak on the record. White House officials declined to comment on the trip and no potential location has been named, although his senior policy adviser for Native American affairs, Jodi Gillette, is a member of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.

Obama became one of the few presidential candidates to visit an Indian reservation in 2008 when he traveled to Crow Nation in Montana. While there, he told the tribe he wanted to acknowledge the "tragic history" of Native Americans.

If the visit happens, it would be a sitting president's first visit to an Indian reservation since 1999, when Bill Clinton visited the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota.
