On a picture-perfect sunny Thursday morning, Patterson Place Apartments stood tall with pride. Today was something extra special, all the hard work, and rehabilitation of the historic McKenzie Building was celebrated by a good old-fashioned ribbon cutting.

420 East Main Ave

Originally built in 1911, this 10-story marvel greeted hotel guests for years - sadly the doors were closed in the 70s and at even one point condemned in 1980. Better times to come were in store for this great place.

The heart of downtown Bismarck

I arrived about 10 minutes before the pair of scissors would be put to use. I was really looking forward to checking out this building, rich in history. The Schuett Companies, Inc clearly cares about our community and the residents that live there. Seniors, individuals with disabilities, and families that have found affordable housing have been taken care of for over 40 years.

Face-lift of a classy place

The Patterson Place Apartments has over 100 one-bedroom apartments, new flooring, new tile. One of the coolest features is that you are so close to shops, restaurants, and everything else a downtown city living can provide. A huge part of it all is the charm that they deliver - a low-income comfortable place to call their home. With a community room, laundry facilities, a library, and a media room with a pool table, I'm guessing you may never have to leave the building!

A happy maintenance worker

While I was walking out, I ran into Brad Elkins, who works for Patterson Place maintenance. He was happy and excited about seeing this day come -he and so many others worked so hard on maintaining and even adding to this historic address. Congratulations to everyone that had a hand in this building, you have made us proud!
