I couldn't very well let Valentines Day arrive without a little "Fighting" fanfare.

The Atlanta Braves have now decided to discontinue the use of the "Screaming Savage" logo for their spring training uniforms.  Upon looking at that logo, I believe I prefer the model pictured above (although uncertain of her Native roots).  Certainly Chief Wahoo from the Cleveland Indians also has his share of detractors.  I have to be honest, it was only about fifteen years ago that I finally realized that maybe "Redskins" didn't seem like a very good team name for our Nation's Capital.  It seems that controversial issue is heating up.

I bring this up because on Valentines Day....THEY'RE BACK BABY!! Fargo's KFGO had this to report.

The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments Feb. 14th in the case of Spirit Lake nickname supporters vs. the NCAA. The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals will hear oral arguments Feb. 14th in the case of Spirit Lake nickname supporters vs. the NCAA. The legal challenge seeks to toss a district court ruling that said tribal members lacked standing in the settlement over the former University of North Dakota moniker. The suit claims the tribes were not included in the discussions with the NCAA despite a 1969 traditional Sioux ceremony giving UND rights to use the nickname.

It's the Valentine Gift nobody can agree on.  Now I insist you leave a comment.  You know you want to..

On the topic of team mascots- how long can the Dickinson Midget hang on?
