Sights From Day One of the International Powwow
It was a beautiful day and a huge turnout for the first day of the United Tribes Technical College's 49th Annual International Powwow. Officially, members of over 30 tribes from across the country were in attendance, though one powwow official said the number was likely greater since they only count those who have registered for one of the various contests throughout the weekend.
During the morning, children from around the area were bussed in to take part in the day's events, which started with a morning session where the kids were taught about dances and other parts of Native American culture.
Then at roughly 1 p.m., a ribbon cutting ceremony to rededicate Lone Star Veterans Arena was held before giving way to the First Grand Entry of the weekend.
