Somebody In North Dakota Is Getting A Snowstorm Next Week

So much for March going out like a lamb.

It's been nothing but wind, rain, snow, and below-normal temperatures for most of North Dakota so far in April.  Even as I type this snow is falling not that far from Bismarck Mandan in places like Sterling, Wing, and Steele.  A High Wind Warning remains in effect for much of our listening area east of the Missouri River.  Wind gusts over 60 miles per hour will challenge drivers today.  This could significantly reduce visibility with falling snow this morning. If you're traveling Interstate 94 east beware of potential slippery travel conditions.

More rain or even a few flakes is expected late Saturday night and into Sunday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Bismarck.  However, it's the system that is expected to hit the region Tuesday and Wednesday of next week that has meteorologists and weather nerds like myself taking notice.

Will it get cold enough for the snow to pile up?

The exact path of the storm and whether or not temperatures will get cold enough for big accumulations of snow next week is still in question.  It does look like at this time that it will be cooler next week with overnight lows in the 20s, which could come into play with next week's potential storm.

As we try to dig out of our drought conditions from the last couple of years,  I don't think anybody will complain too much about precipitation.  Even if it's the frozen variety.

The long-range forecast looks cool for April.

According to the long-range forecast for Bismarck from AccuWeather for the month of April, more of the same weatherwise.  Below normal temperatures (no 70s and not many 60s) and several more chances of precipitation.
