According to statistics recently released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, North Dakota is home to the five counties with the lowest unemployment rates in the country:

  1. Williams County - 0.9%
  2. Slope County - 1.2%
  3. Dunn County - 1.3%
  4. Billings County - 1.4%
  5. McKenzie County - 1.4%

Being home to the five counties with the lowest unemployment rate in the country helps make North Dakota the state with the lowest unemployment rate by a large margin (2.6%).

Here are the five counties with the highest unemployment rate in the country:

  1. Yuma County, AZ - 27.7%
  2. Imperial County, CA - 24.5%
  3. Wade County, AK - 22.1%
  4. Apache County, AZ - 19.8%
  5. Colusa County, CA - 18.4%

Though California and Arizona are home to two of the counties with the highest unemployment rate in the country, neither state holds that title. Rhode Island is actually the state with the highest unemployment rate at 8.7%.
