The cause of death is pretty much the same in every state across the country. According to 24/7 Wall St., the most common cause of death for all of us is heart disease, followed by cancer  and chronic lower respiratory disease.

The website also listed the most unusual or strangest ways to die in each state. That's a different twist on the article. Here we go, the strangest ways to die in the following states-

  • Montana - Acute and rapidly progressive nephritic and nephrotic syndrome, 11 deaths from 2001-2010.
  • Minnesota - Other and unspecified acute lower respiratory infections, 28 deaths from 2001-2010.
  • South Dakota - Influenza, 141 deaths from 2001-2010.
  • North Dakota - Influenza, 87 deaths from 2001-2010.

The methodology used according to 24/7 Wall St. was

24/7 Wall St. identified the most unusual causes of death by state. They relied on  data from the CDC’s epidemiology database, which stores the coded causes of  death as reported to each state. These codes, referred to as ICD codes, provide  a standard way for diseases, symptoms, and other health-related data to be  referenced

and recorded.
