After a roughly three week trial and 10 hours of deliberation, the jury has decided that Derek Chauvin is GUILTY of killing George Floyd. Derek Chauvin was charged with 2nd and 3rd degree murder, as well as 2nd degree manslaughter.

Here are the three charges against Derek Chauvin in the death of George Floyd:

  • Count 1: 2nd degree murder - Unintentional murder during a felony
  • Count 2: 3rd degree murder - Depraved mind murder
  • Count 3: 2nd degree manslaughter - Culpable negligence

Major cities across the country are preparing for possible unrest.

According to CBSN, just before the announcement, crowds were beginning to gather and the police were preparing for possible unrest in Minneapolis. Buildings have boarded up windows, Hennepin County employees were ordered to go home for the day, and doors and area schools will strictly do distance learning tomorrow. It was reported that other major cities around the country are also prepared for unrest.

Derek Chauvin will be sentenced in eight weeks.
