It's the most wonderful time of the year. But it's also the most expensive.

This is the time of year when people start planning what gifts they will be getting for friends and family members and all of those gifts add up.

Wallet Hub released a study of how much money they feel people will spend in various cities across the U.S. based on age, debt-to-income ratio and other factors.

In Palo Alto, California, people will spend $2,821 this holiday season, more money than people in any other city.

Meanwhile, the people of Brockton, Massachusetts (and there are over 95,000 of them) will spend just $71.  That is the lowest of any other city in the U.S.

In Bismarck, Wallet Hub projects the average budget per person is $689. That ranks 223 out of 570 total cities looked at. Compare that to Fargo where it is projected people will spend $566.
