North Dakota only needed a third period goal to knock off top-ranked Denver in a physical battle, with the Fighting Hawks (21-14-3) taking the 1-0 victory in men's hockey.

Austin Poganski scored 2:30 into the third period, and Cam Johnson stopped 21 shots from the Denver Pioneers (28-7-4) to help UND not only advance to the Frozen Faceoff title game, but also advance to the NCAA Division I Tournament for the 15th consecutive season.

Denver had previously been averaging 4.3 goals per game before being staggered by the Fighting Hawks' defense and the stellar play of Johnson. Tanner Jailett stopped 23 of 24 North Dakota shots in the defeat. The win for UND also snaps a 13-game winning streak for Denver.

The Frozen Faceoff Championship will happen tonight when UND takes on rival Minnesota-Duluth, with the puck dropping at 7:38 p.m.

Congrats to the Fighting Hawks on the upset victory and another NCAA Division I Tournament appearance!
