I have been having a lot of sleepless nights.  I know  most of it is due to my chemotherapy meds and lately due to the heat and smoke.   I like to be outside, I get hot, the smoky air gets to me and messes with my sleep.    Sometimes I give up trying to fall asleep and start watching YouTube videos.  Other times I do some middle of the night online shopping.  Most recently I googled crazy laws.  Specifically, North Dakota crazy laws.

Reading thru some of the actual laws that were on the books, removed and some still remain on the books.  Crazy laws.  Laws that may make you chuckle.    Laws that make you wonder, Who came up with these laws?

Taken from Only In Your State, here are a few.

In Fargo, you may be jailed if you're wearing a hat while dancing.   Yup, wearing a hat...while dancing....geez, rodeo dances would fill up the local jail.

Here is another crazy one.  Operators of underground coal mines in North Dakota must provide an adequate supply of toilet paper for each toilet.   Ok, what amount is considered adequate?  And how many toilets are we talking about?  3,7 or just one?  Does it matter what brand of toilet paper?  2 ply? Quilted?  Okay, I am getting carried away, but still...it was a law.

Now some of you may have heard of this preposterous law...Beer and Pretzels can't be served together in any North Dakota bar or restaurant.  If this law is still on the books, I think bar owners probably found a loop hole to get around it.

And the last one I thought was crazy...In North Dakota it is illegal to lie down and fall asleep with your shoes on.   I think most people probably take their shoes off as soon as they get home.  But if you were just exhausted and you walked in and laid down on a couch...there is a good chance you would fall asleep.   And you would be breaking the law.

I don't know if any of these remain on the books.  But I am going to make sure to kick my shoes off as soon as I get home!
