When's the last time you put on a pair of rollerskates?  Some of you may have fond memories of class trips to your local roller rink and skating round and round.  Trying to get up enough courage to ask that person you had a crush on to skate on a couple's dance?  The feeling you had holding their hand as you skated by your friends watching on.

That used to be a common scenario in the 80s and 90s in many North Dakota cities.  However, the roller rinks pretty much went the way of the drive-in movie theaters, pagers, and Blockbuster Video stores.  They began to vanish across the North Dakota prairie.

I decided to do a quick Google search to see if I could find any existing roller rinks in North Dakota.  I know of one at Stump Lake Pavillion but to my knowledge, it's seldom used as a roller rink and it's more a wedding dance venue.  I found one in Fargo, Kramer, North Dakota northeast of Minot, and one in Park River.

Now, we have a brand NEW roller rink coming to North Dakota and not too far from Bismarck Mandan.  MAD Moves Roller Rink and Gym is coming to Steele, North Dakota.  The owner Lindsay Goodman Dammel says she hopes to have the rink "rolling" by August in time for the new school year.  She plans to have after-school hours during the week so there can be opportunities for after-school programs.  MAD Moves will also of course have plenty of weekend roller skating hours.  You can follow the progress on their MAD Moves Facebook page.

The title of the new business actually came from the name of Lindsay's three kids, Mia, Alicia, and Derek.  The facility will even have concessions like hot dogs, burgers, fries, nachos, and more.  The gym will even have a view into the roller rink.
