A Puppy Named ‘Bizmark’ Will Compete in This Year’s Puppy Bowl
On February 5th, a big football game is taking place. But that is also the day of the annual Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet.
If you're not familiar with The Puppy Bowl, get familiar with it. It's the most adorable competition you will ever see. The Puppy Bowl airs on Animal Planet hours before that other big game and then usually plays on repeat for the rest of the day.
This year's Puppy Bowl will air initially at 2pm on Animal Planet. The network takes shelter dogs from all over the nation and splits them up into teams Ruff and Fluff. The puppies run around a mini football field filled with dog toys and if a puppy grabs a toy in his or her mouth and carries it into one of the end zones, it's a touchdown.
One of the puppies competing this year is named Bizmark (he is the fourth dog in the slideshow).
Bizmark is an 18 week old Blue Tick Coonhound. He will be competing for team Ruff and comes from the AHeinz57 Pet Rescue & Transport in De Soto, Iowa.
So how did Bizmark (sometimes spelled Bismark) get his name? AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and Transport told us that the shelter had a hound named Mayflower and the shelter named all of her puppies after ships.
Bismarck was a battleship used in Nazi Germany and of course the ship was named after the German Chancellor Otto Von Bismarck. Bismarck, North Dakota gets its name from that same chancellor who is credited for uniting Germany in 1871.
AHeinz57 Pet Rescue and Transport tells us that Bizmark has been adopted and is loving life.
If you need a puppy to root for in this year's Puppy Bowl, the choice is pretty obvious. Watch him compete on February 5th!
