A bill was proposed earlier this month to lift the blue laws in North Dakota.

Had the bill passed, it means that you could do your shopping prior to noon on Sundays. The House voted on Monday on the bill and the measure failed by six votes.

Those in favor of the bill felt it would help businesses compete with those in neighboring states and with online retailers.

Opponents of the bill felt the time should be used for employees to spend with family.

The house voted 50-44 to keep the law as it is. You still can't go to Walmart and a plethora of other businesses before noon on Sunday and that isn't changing anytime soon. This is not the first time a lifting of the blue laws has been proposed and subsequently struck down.
