If you were trying to find the most popular car in every state, you'd probably see a lot of the same entries. But, what about each state's most distinctive vehicle?

Popular Mechanics recently came out with a list entitled 'The Unofficial State Cars of America,' in which they figured out which vehicle people in a certain state bought more than anywhere else.

Let's first look at how they came up with their list:

First, auto analyst Tom Libby pulled data about the make and model of every car sold in the U.S., and calculated the popularity of each by percentage using registration data. Then, he did the same at the state level, and compared each state to the national average.

So, what is the unofficial car of North Dakota? The GMC Yukon Denali XL:

In North Dakota, the GMC Yukon Denali XL sells at 567 percent of the national average. In North Dakota three versions of the GMC Yukon, including the Denali XL, XL and Denali each sell at a rate more than four times the national average.

With the terrain and types of work available in North Dakota, it should come as no surprise that the Yukon Denali XL is popular in the Roughrider State.
