For the most part, flying out of North Dakota is a fairly easy task. Waits and delays are usually significantly lower, if only due to the fact that the airports are smaller and less congested.

That being said, it is still a rule of thumb to arrive at least an hour ahead of time to ensure any hiccup you encounter getting to your gate won't cause you to miss your flight.

However, you will be required to pass through the Transportation Security Administration checkpoint prior to boarding any aircraft departing from any of the eight commercial airports in North Dakota. There will also be a screening process for your bags.

In response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks, the TSA was established. Shortly after those incidents, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was established to investigate and perhaps prohibit certain items from being brought onto aircraft. Everybody has a tale about the TSA, right? Like that time you forgot to bring a water bottle or had toothpaste in the wrong size tube for boarding.

Such are the drawbacks of heightened safety measures. The absence of a repeat of 9/11 should be conclusive evidence that screening has effectively reduced aviation safety risks. Applause for the work that TSA personnel accomplish; myself, I'd prefer to go without shampoo than become a hijacker.

Did you realize that experienced TSA specialists are searching for one more spot besides our bags and carry-ons? We all know that. Where you are is where it is. Body language reading is a skill that TSA personnel learn. People who have something to hide tend to act differently than those who aren't hiding anything, according to studies.

If you yawn too much while waiting in line at the TSA, they may remove you from the line. Excessive yawning does indicate nervousness. That warrants additional investigation by TSA agents.

Yawning is one of many behaviors agents notice during SPOT exams. SPOT is a government acronym for Screening of Passengers by Observation Techniques. The agency did say that no single behavior is usually enough for agents to pull a passenger out of line, but several behaviors combined with a baggage screen will get you pulled out of line.

The SPOT list also includes things like shaking uncontrollably, staring blankly ahead, blinking quickly, extreme perspiration, and wearing clothes that don't correspond to your present or future location. For instance, a person boarding a flight to Jamaica from Miami while wearing an overcoat might expect to be stared at—very stared at.

Doing nothing wrong is, of course, the surest way to stay out of trouble with the TSA. Always be punctual and follow the rules. Additionally, remember to apply deodorant before boarding the plane. Your fellow passengers will appreciate it after you've perspired heavily through security.
