The Mandan Progress Organization has just announced "Carpool Cinema"  will be making it's debut Saturday August 1st.  It's going to be a drive-in movie playing in the parking lot behind the Mandan Braves Center just off Division Street.

Outdoor theater concepts like this have been popping up all over the country.  It's a chance for some old fashioned "necking" at the drive-in. The concept is that everyone lines up and tunes their radios to a single special FM frequency and you can listen while socially distancing in your car (necking).  The huge screen will be an LED screen which is viewable even during daylight hours- but I'd bet it's best after dark.

Mandan natives might want to sit down before reading this next line.

It's been 42 years since the Starlite Drive-In played it's last movie in Mandan.  I feel your age, Minot as well had a Starlite Drive-In that shut down in the 70s.  Time marches on...and in this case we're marching back in time with Carpool Cinema.

The first screening will be the movie Sonic the Hedgehog.  It's based on a video game character and is the highest grossing film ever to be adapted from a video game.  So far, it's the 2nd highest grossing film of 2020.  Not hard to do when theaters have been shut down since mid-March.

Admission is just $10 per car, so it really doesn't pay to try to sneak your buddies to the movie in your trunk. Which used to happen- all the time.

Registration is required in advance.  Tickets are limited so get yours early. Learn everything you need to know on the MPO website.

So that's the good car news coming out of Mandan...the bad car news may concern Buggies and Blues which was rescheduled from June to mid-August.
