A bill was introduced before the House Committee to make it illegal in North Dakota to wear a mask in public.

The bill has taken aim at the Dakota Access Pipeline protesters, as they wore masks to conceal their identities. However, opponents of the bill are saying it would not hold up in federal court as it is unconstitutional due to the nature of the bill focusing on occasions when masks are used as an expression of First Amendment rights.

The bill also provides multiple 'exemptions' that would not criminalize the act of wearing a mask and/or hood in public.
