I personally had never heard of this before growing up on the eastern side of the state, but the more I talk to people in the west, I feel like a good share of people have tried this delicacy.  Yep, I guess "Raw Meat Sandwiches," are a thing now.  Especially this time of year at holiday parties in western North Dakota.

If you live in the state of Wisconsin it's almost mandatory to do this.  Those crazy Sconi's, who are more known for their cheese and beer, are also known for their raw meat.  It's even a holiday tradition, but health officials are warning of the dangerous practice of eating raw meat.

According to an article on Bring Me MN The News, Wisconsin state officials say people should refrain from indulging in this time-honored holiday tradition of eating raw ground beef sandwiches.  If you are like me and not familiar with this Wisconsin (and western North Dakota) delicacy, it's also known as "Cannibal Sandwiches" or even "Tiger Meat".

There are numerous reasons you shouldn't eat raw meat, but just in case you need a refresher course, here's why health officials say you should avoid this risky activity at your holiday get-togethers this year.  It carries significant health risks, such as contracting Salmonella and E. coli.  Ground beef should always be cooked to at least 160 degrees.

Now, I know what some of you risk-takers are saying.  What about sushi?  How do they get away with it?  Well, we've all heard the story about people being filled with worms and other parasites who eat a lot of sushi.  Pretty sure, worms would be possible with raw hamburgers.  Can you say tapeworms?  YUCK!  Just sayin', I know somebody who had "pinworms" once, and it was not a fun experience.

That's a HARD PASS for me on Cannibal Sandwiches, pass me the lefsa instead!
