One Lost, One Saved
In the past few weeks two Native American women were reporting missing. Kara Mauai of Fort Yates was last seen in early November. And just after New Years, Selena Not Afraid of Montana, was reported missing.
Searches were conducted. Flyers were shared. Tears were shed. Prayers were said.
According to MMIW, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, 4 out of 5 Native women are affected by violence today. The U.S. Department of Justice found that American Indian Women face murder rates that are more than 10 times the national average.
Unfortunately, Selena's body was found near a rest area in Montana. Foul play is not suspected, however, the investigation continues.
But on a happy note. Kara Mauai was found alive Wednesday in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Her family received a call from Kara. Dallas police were able to track her exact location. At this time no more information is available other than she is safe with authorities.
Prayers were answered. Tears were shed. One lost. One saved.
