Thanks to 2020 and the coronavirus, staying at home became the new norm.  Because of that, home renovation and re-design are at an all-time high.

According to a new article on Joybird, they wanted to uncover which interior design styles have been the most popular around the U.S. over the past year. They analyzed Google Trends data to uncover the top interior design style in each state and where these styles have the most interest.

The top interior design style across the country was a tie between modern farmhouse and industrial, each winning out six states.  In North Dakota, cottagecore came out on top as the most popular interior design style.  Cottagecore?  To be honest, I had never heard that term before, so I decided to do some research, and find out what the people of North Dakota are running to Menards and Lowes for.

In terms of regional trends, North Dakota is not in the most popular pocket.  The heartland and mountain west love "modern farmhouse."  This was the most popular trend in America, including South Dakota, Montana & Idaho.  Modern farmhouse is a look filled with natural farmhouse materials like barn wood, other natural woods, barn doors and stone.  I absolutely LOVE this look, in fact, my country home south of Lincoln has this look.

Nope, in North Dakota we like the viral cottagecore design.  This trend, which celebrates, crocheted pillows and delicate floral wallpaper, was popular across the U.S. from Alaska to Rhode Island, from North Dakota to Hawaii.  Sounds like Grand Ma's house to me. Here's a look at what a cottagecore design looks like.

I must say, I despise this look. Flowered wall paper? Really? Here's more.

I'm not sure where we went wrong North Dakota, but this look has got to go!
