Joseph Duncan was a psychopathic child killer living in California when he met a man in a San Francisco bar.  The gentleman then invited Duncan to Fargo North Dakota, where he would spend five years free from any kid killing.  He attended NDSU and seemed to be a good student.  Detroit Lakes Online created a pretty in-depth account of Duncan's time in North Dakota.  It's filled with all the accounts you always hear from friends, neighbors and co-workers, they all thought he was quiet and maybe a little quirky.

Here's where "North Dakota Nice" might have kicked in...Duncan didn't molest or kill anybody in the 5 years he was here in North Dakota.  We can be pretty certain of that, because serial killers are narcissists and want credit for everything they do.

But Duncan couldn't keep his demons in check and ended up molesting juveniles in Minnesota.

In March 2005, Duncan was charged with the July 3, 2004 molestation of two boys at a playground in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. On April 5, 2005, he appeared before a Becker County judge, who set bail at US$15,000.[18] A Fargo businessman, with whom Duncan had become acquainted, helped him post bail. However, Duncan skipped bail and disappeared.[19] On June 1, 2005, a federal warrant was issued for Duncan's arrest on the charge of "unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

So while he was on the run he kills a mom, her boyfriend, and her three kids in Idaho.

There's also quite a bit of perverse torture involved that I won't tell you about, but if you're interested in disturbing details- by all means click here and here as well.

On March 28, 2021, Joseph Edward Duncan died in prison from a form of brain cancer.  The world's better off without this monster.  You can read his entire Wikipedia post right here...it's a pretty long entry because of all the molesting and killing.  Here's the reaction of the father of one of Duncan's first victims:

"While I would've liked to witness his execution, knowing he is now standing before God being held accountable for what he has done, what he did to my son, and the horrible crimes he committed to others, that's the real justice,"
