Two males are in custody after a shooting at a STEM school in Highlands Ranch Colorado. Colorado Public Radio reports that eight injured individuals have been transported to area hospitals with some in critical condition. Both suspects are reportedly students at the school. More details as they become available.

The shooting took place at a K–12 school for STEM students.

Law enforcement said it responded to an incident at STEM School Highlands Ranch just after 2:00 p.m. According to the school’s website, 1,850 students are enrolled there. The shooting took place in the middle school, which is attended by 700 students.

“I heard a gunshot,” 8-year-old Makai Dixon, who had already gone through years of active shooter drills and lockdowns, told the New York Times. “I’d never heard it before.”

One student has died, and eight were injured.

Per the Denver Post, eight students were injured and an 18-year-old male was killed. (Names of victims have not yet been released.) By Tuesday evening, at least four victims has been released from hospitals.
