Suicide Prevention Resources in ND
The recent self-inflicted deaths of fashion designer Kate Spade and chef Anthony Bourdain have many talk about the question of suicide.
With that in mind, we think it's an appropriate time to talk about the anti-suicide resources available in the Bismarck-Mandan area and across North Dakota.
The most prominent resource is the North Dakota Suicide Prevention Program at 1-800-273-8255. The number is open anytime, day or night.
That's 1-800-273-TALK.
Here, via Gannett/USA Today is a list of warning signs that someone you know may be considering suicide:
Talking about wanting to die. There's an old wives' tale that says people who talk about suicide never act on it. That is not true. If someone you know is speaking of taking their life, you must act on it and get help.
Insomnia.
Losing interest in family/friends/job/activities.
If you or a friend is feeling suicidal, call the Suicide hotline number above, or just dial 9-1-1. (When the operator asks if it's an emergency tell them, "yes.")
And as far as the question of suicide is concerned...
Keep it a question.
It's not really an answer.
