Carson Wentz made his NFL debut on Thursday night, and following a plethora of hard hits, he fractured his ribs.

Various media outlets including ESPN's Adam Schefter report that Wentz suffered a hairline fracture in his ribs on Thursday night.

Details are still coming out but it is unknown at this time when Wentz will be able to return.

The good news here is that Wentz was not expected to play this season so in theory any time he will "miss" is not really time he would be playing anyway.

Of course the bulk of his playing time was going to come over the next couple of games in the preseason. Unfortunately, he won't be able to get those in-game reps and he likely won't be practicing either.

However, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said in a statement that they hope to have Wentz back before the preseason is over.

“Carson felt some discomfort and soreness as we began this morning’s practice. We decided to limit him throughout the remainder of practice and, as a precaution, sent him for a CT scan after practice. The scan revealed a hairline fracture in his ribs. We do not know an exact timetable for his return, but we hope to have him back before the end of the preseason.”

In a video uploaded on Saturday morning by NJ.com to YouTube, Carson Wentz can be seen throwing a couple of passes at practice (in the red No. 11 jersey). Wentz makes his first pass in this video at about the 23 second mark.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
