Mandan Now Limited to Two Days Of Fireworks. Dogs Rejoice.
You fetched the paper for your dog this morning and he couldn't believe his out-of-proportion pug eyes when he read the news:
MANDAN RESTRICTS LEGAL FIREWORKS TO JUST TWO DAYS IN 2022.
2021 was a drought so this is Mandan's first year of reduced days.
In August 2020, Mandan City Commissioners drew up a new ordinance banning the use of fireworks in the city on July 2nd. So starting in 2021, lighting fireworks will only be legal in Mandan city limits on July 3rd and 4th. They also reduced the times to noon to midnight on both July 3rd and 4th. Years past you could light off your fireworks until 2 AM on the morning of July 5th.
Notify everyone you know that things are different in 2022!
This is great news for dogs, as that's one less day spent under the bed. It's also good news for service members suffering from PTSD and for the community members who don't give a hoot about fireworks and the mess that they make.
I'm not just making this up y'all...tell 'em City of Mandan
The possession, use, discharge and explosion of fireworks is only permitted from noon to 11:59 p.m. on July 3 and 4.
- No sky lanterns, bottle rockets. The possession, manufacture, storage, sale and use of sky lanterns and bottle rockets is prohibited within city limits.
- Fireworks off limits in parks. Fireworks are prohibited at all city parks, with the exception of Mandan Rodeo Days’ annual display at Dacotah Centennial Park.
It’s important to note that this reflects a 2020 ordinance change and is different from previous years. The fee for violations is $150.
I moved here to Mandan in 2001 and let me tell ya, back then it wasn't just July 2nd, 3rd, and 4th that you could blow up stuff, no sir-I seem to recall it being like a two-week-long period. I could be mistaken, maybe it was more like just one week. But every evening sounded just like the opening beach invasion scene from the movie Saving Private Ryan.
Bismarck will still incarcerate you for lighting snakes on the sidewalk
It wasn't so long ago that Bismarck considered legalizing fireworks but that fizzled out pretty quickly. Make no mistake, shooting off anything in Bismarck will get you busted. You could maybe throw a few of those "snap pops" if ya like.
What about Lincoln?
Everyone has always told me fireworks were once huge in Lincoln but now were outlawed. Well, that's not what I saw on the City of Lincoln website. So it seems legal to me? Although, my opinion is not admissable on your court date
3-05-04. - Use of Fireworks Within the City Limits.
So it seems Lincoln adheres to the same kind of rules as Mandan while Bismarck keeps it quiet in between. Well, they do have the big show at the Capital. If you'd like to find cool places to see fireworks displays in our area just click right here.
