In March, North Dakota became the 22nd state to pass the Blue Alert into law and, as of May 22nd, it is fully automated and operational.

According to InForum, the Blue Alert is intended to inform the public about criminals on the run that are suspected of seriously injuring or killing a police officer.

Much like Amber and Silver Alerts, Blue Alerts will inform the public of possible danger via text message. There will also be posts made to social media and electronic highway signs.

Florida was the first state to introduce the Blue Alert back in 2008. Minnesota was the most recent state to pass the Blue Alert into law.

President Barack Obama also recently signed a bill into law that would require nationwide Blue Alerts, in an effort to warn police officers of possible danger, as well as apprehend suspects as quickly as possible.
