If you're a fan of the social media app TikTok, you might want to ween yourself off of the app.  Why?  Well according to an article on Valley News Live NBC, the United States is considering banning this and other Chinese apps.  That's right, TikTok is a Chinese based app out of Beijing-based company,  Officials in Washington are concerned personal information could be accessed by Beijing.

According to the article on Valley News Live NBC it said Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told Fox News on Monday the United States is very serious about banning TikTok and other Chinese apps.  His comments come as tensions continue to rise between the United States and Chinese technology firms.  Chinese technology has been on the radar of the United States for awhile.  The U.S. believes their technology could be used for espionage by Beijing and user data could be compromised.  It appears the Trump administration has drawn the line against TikTok.  When asked if American's should download the app, Secretary of State Pompeo said only if you want your information to get in the hands of communist China.

TikTok is a very big social media app these days, especially with teenagers.  This popular musical singing and sharing app allows you to watch, create and share videos.  According to Common Sense Media the app is mostly harmless, however There have even been reports of online predators using the app to target younger users.   And in 2019, TikTok paid millions to settle with federal regulators who charged it violated children's privacy law according to the article on Common Sense Media.

I guess I'm glad I'm only on facebook, where people constantly bicker about politics.
