Top States For Car VS Deer Accidents
As cute as Bambi is, deer are fairly quiet animals, and they don't venture far from where they rest and feed. Studies show if you see a deer, it probably has a friend near by ( if you see one, there are probably two or more). And they will not travel outside a 5 miles radius of where you spot them.
State Farm Insurance company rated the most dangerous states to be involved in a deer VS car accident for 2014 and North Dakota was mentioned in the top 20.
- West Virginia
- Pennsylvania
- Montana
- Iowa
- South Dakota
- Mississippi
- Wisconsin
- Virginia and Minnesota (tie)
- South Carolina
- Michigan
North Dakota filed in at #14.
Deer cause a lot of damage and deaths every year. The report indicates you have a 1 in 169 chance of hitting a deer. I speak from personal experience as I totaled a car outside of Minneapolis in the middle of the night on US169 S by hitting a deer in the middle of the night that came out of nowhere. It is not as though you can travel slowly and look for them. Normally if you see one or more on the side of the road, to approach with caution. In my case, I had the cruise control set at 65 MPH and Bambi ran out from nowhere.
