Carson Wentz threw a pair of touchdowns to his new pair of wide receivers signed in free agency in the Philadelphia Eagles 38-31 home preseason victory over the Miami Dolphins.

Wentz hooked up with Torrey Smith for a 50-yard touchdown, just over two and a half minutes into the first quarter. The deep ball was the first catch for Smith in an Eagles uniform, as the Eagles quickly had a 7-0 lead.

After Jay Ajayi ran in a 2-yard score for the Dolphins to tie the game at 7-7, Miami intercepted a tipped pass from Wentz as he was under pressure, and returned it to the Eagles 2-yard line. Ajayi ran it in from there to take a 14-7 lead with just over four minutes left in the first quarter. Ajayi ended with 53 yards on 9 carries and the 2 TDs.

Back came the Eagles. Wentz went to work on a 9 play, 93 yard touchdown drive, including a pair of strikes to Alshon Jeffery. One was for 20 yards, the other a 15-yard touchdown strike up the seam that would lead to a 14-14 tie after one quarter. Carson Wentz's day was finished, as he went 6 for 10 in passing for 129 yards with 2 touchdowns, and an interception. Wentz had taken a number of shots from the Dolphins pass-rush in his one quarter of play.

On the other side, Jay Cutler saw his first action after signing with the Dolphins. Cutler looked relatively sharp, going 5 for 8 in passing for 105 yards and a touchdown.

The Eagles would go into the half up 28-24 after scoring on a 3-yard run from Corey Clement and a pick-six touchdown return of 31 yards from Mychal Kendricks. Clement finished the game with 42 rushing yards on 9 carries and the touchdown.

With the score tied at 31-31 in the fourth quarter, Matt McGloin hit Marcus Johnson on a 1-yard touchdown pass to end the scoring with just over 11 minutes remaining. McGloin went 22 for 26 for 155 yards with a touchdown and an interception in backup work.

Wentz's preaseason work is likely finished as he'll prepare for Week 1 of the regular season when the Philadelphia Eagles will travel to Washington to take on the Redskins. Wentz finishes the preseason 16 of 23 for 241 yards with 3 touchdowns and an interception.

The Eagles (2-1) will finish up their preseason next Thursday, August 31 on the road against the New York Jets.
