Navy SEAL from North Dakota Dies in Kayak Incident
A Navy SEAL originally from Cavalier, North Dakota died in a kayaking incident in Virginia.
According to the Virginian Pilot, Devon Grube who is stationed in Virginia Beach, had his kayak get overturned in the Chesapeake Bay.
Grube was recovered by the Coast Guard who transported him to a hospital where Grube eventually passed away. It is believed Grube died due to 'environmental exposure.'
The water temperature at the time was 46 degrees. The incident occurred on Wednesday at about 9:20am and Grube apparently was not pulled out of the water until about 11am.
Grube was off duty at the time of the incident. Though the Navy did not give the age or hometown of the officer, the Virginia Pilot cited a 2008 article in the Bismarck Tribune to trace Grube back to Cavalier, North Dakota.
