According to a press-release from Bismarck Public Schools, somebody is trying to scam area residents out of money.  This scam is taking place in Bismarck and is also happening across the United States.

An out of state number is claiming to be selling sponsorships for Bismarck Legacy High School.  It's likely they're doing this for other area schools as well.  They are asking for a cash donation to sponsor a mascot t-shirt giveaway, where the mascot would throw t-shirts out into the stands.  If you make a donation, you'll be recognized or maybe even end up on the t-shirt.  The scammer will say he's with Sports Media working for Bismarck Legacy, but even that company even says it's a scam.  Now, your first "red flag" should've been, that they're are NO fans in the stands right?  Other than Mom and Dad or whomever the student athlete decides to give the two vouchers to attend the sporting event.  The scammer may mix things up and go at you with a completely different angle besides the mascot t-shirt giveaway, so beware of that as well.  Bismarck Public Schools has also reported this incident to the North Dakota Consumer Protection Division.

As always, Bismarck Public Schools always encourages the public to call the school or the school district to determine the legitimacy of any person claiming to be selling items, advertising, sponsorships or anything else for that matter, on behalf of any Bismarck Public School.

Again, it's likely this is not just a problem for Bismarck Legacy High School.  These scammers are no doubt going after Bismarck High, Bismarck Century, Mandan, Bismarck St. Mary's and Shiloh Christian as well.  Please spread the word and make people aware.
