Brent A. Kary lost his battle to colon cancer on July 17, 2010. To honor him, his family started the Brent A. Kary Memorial Men's Softball Tournament taking place on July 26.

Kary was a very active member of the community as the Executive Director of the Peace Pipe Indian Center, Indian Parent Coordinator for the ND Federation of Families, and held various roles at Sitting Bull College. In 2008, Kary graduated from UND School of Law and began work as the Tribal Prosecutor for the Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation and in-house attorney for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.

With three games guaranteed, the tournament will host 10 teams Rec I and below.

The top three teams will be recognized and receive prizes including:

  • 1st Place - Championship Jackets
  • 2nd Place - Sweatshirts
  • 3rd Place - T-Shirts

Other contests taking place during the tournament will be:

  • Home-Run
  • Place-Hitting
  • Best Team Dance

A memorial feed will be supplied for all players. An entry fee of $150 is due by July 19.
